|CHIPS TRACK THE TRUCKS|
The MED.I.T.A. project aims at setting up a data network between Mediterranean ports and dry ports, so as to support easier and faster exchanges of goods. A pilot action: tracking trailers in the port area.
Passive UHF RFID: cheap chips; efficient technology
MED.I.T.A. designs and implements an autonomous system for spotting Ro-Ro trailers within the area of Valencia Port. How to track a trailer? Through UHF RFID chips. Cheap and easy.
The pilot system consists of UHF RFID chips linked to a monitoring and control software for keeping an eye on trucks and trailers exiting the port.
› Fast access to ports and terminals
› A network surveying the transportation of goods in the Mediterranean
› Ad hoc data mining processes
› A web communication platform for sharing information.
MED.I.T.A. will reduce queues and shrink the overall inspection time. A new assisted inspection system will take care of empty containers at the exit lanes, and an automatic customs release system will process RO-RO units at the dedicated gates.
